Watching - and influencing - how the world unfolds is as addictive as ever, and the boon of portability make this a great way to play. If you think Civilization peaked at IV, the sixth entry won’t change your mind, but we envy anyone who’s never played the series – Civilization VI on Switch is a brilliant introduction.

While the PC version offers superior graphics and controls, you won’t be able to put this Civilization 6 Switch port down. It's Civilization VI on the Nintendo Switch, practically immaculate and able to run even better than it used to do on certain rattling laptops.įiraxis Games has done a magnificent job of porting Civilization 6 to the Nintendo Switch. With touch and Joy-Con controls that work reasonably well in both handheld and docked modes, I wouldn't be too upset about an even longer commute because it would give me more time to play a few turns.Ĭivilization 6 is a huge and deep game, and on Nintendo Switch it'is more valid than ever thanks to an excellent porting. Once you start playing Civilization, it has the most incredible ability to make you lose all sense of time, and desire to play anything else.Ĭivilization VI is as brilliant a 4X strategy game on Switch as it is on PC, tablets, or phones. Overall I’d highly recommend this to people that just want this for the portable single player experience, but I’d still like to see the developers fix the bugs that cause so many crashes in the future. Other strategy games really struggle in this area. Graphics - obviously high end pc’s will beat out the switch but overall the graphics hold up well.Ĭontrols - the developers did a great job at making the controls intuitive.
Portability - nothing beats playing civ on the go or on the couch. There is also some lag and frame rate issues when your turn starts and I had the sound just cut out once and I had to restart to get it back. Which is a real bummer because I’d love to play this with my friends on switch instead of my potato of a pc.Įnd game - I’ve noticed in the end game that the AI turns take ages to process, even with only 6 players. No multiplayer - there is no online multiplayer. The developers did a great job porting the game to the switch but it’s not without some problems:Ĭrashes - the game crashes a lot, fortunately the game does a good enough job keeping your progress, but it’s still an inconvenience. Somehow I’ve managed to buy Civ6 three times (mobile, switch, PC), but of all the versions, I play the switch version the most.
